Foreign Minister Chairs Meeting of International Human Rights Committee

Manama: Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired a meeting of the newly restructured International Human Rights Affairs Committee, where members reviewed its expanded mandate to strengthen Bahrain's international human rights engagement. Al Zayani said the committee would enhance coordination among relevant national entities and support Bahrain's human rights diplomacy, building on the achievements of the National Human Rights Plan (2022 - 2026).

According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister also highlighted Bahrain's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2026 - 2027, with the support of 186 countries (99.5%), describing it as a reflection of international confidence in the Kingdom. He noted Bahrain's role in securing the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, backed by 136 countries, and UN Human Rights Council Resolution 61/1, adopted by consensus, on protecting civilians and critical civilian infrastructure during armed conflicts.

Al Zayani added that Bahrain had convened three emergency UN Security Council sessions during the recent regional developments, reaffirming the Kingdom's commitment to promoting international law, humanitarian principles, and multilateral cooperation.
