Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, met with Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.
They met on the sidelines of the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York,, to present the Bahrain’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the progress made towards achieving the sustainable development goals.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah highlighted the UN’s role in following up the achievement of sustainable development goals in the world.
He lauded the cooperation between Bahrain’s government and the UN resident offices, within the framework of the Strategic and Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2021-2024 signed with the Government in May 2021.
The agreement covers various areas of cooperation in line with the Government Plan and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
Junhua congratulated Bahrain on the launch of Bahrain’s Partnership and Contributions Report with the UN in cooperation with the UN Development Program, which reflects Bahrain’s efforts in the field sustainable development during 2015-2022.
He praised Bahrain’s implementation of the new guidelines during the preparation of its national report, which include coverage of the most important measures taken by countries to combat the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic.
