Manama: Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, participated in the 8th Equal Opportunities Conference. The event, organised by Ahlia University in collaboration with the Saudi-based University of Business and Technology and the UK-based Brunel University, focused on advancing gender equality across various sectors.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Salman highlighted Bahrain's dedication to sustainable development under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He praised the efforts of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, in enhancing the role of women in Bahrain's national development.
Salman pointed out the legislative authority's efforts in promoting gender equality, referencing the Parliamentary Handbook Mainstreaming the Needs of Bahraini Women in National Development. This initiative was launched during the 146th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly held in Bahrain.
With the Sustainable Development Goals' 2030 deadline approaching, the First Deputy Speaker stressed the importance of reviewing policy implementations. He urged for transforming regional challenges into investment opportunities, showcasing the legislative body's commitment to sustainable development through collaboration with the executive authority and the private sector.
The conference addressed topics such as gender equality in entrepreneurship, academic research, and societal perceptions of women, aiming to foster a more inclusive environment for women in various fields.
