FINC Chief Executive Leads Bahrain’s Delegation at Egmont Group Plenary Meeting

Luxembourg: Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the Chief Executive of Bahrain's Financial Intelligence National Centre (FINC), led Bahrain's delegation to the 31st Egmont Group Plenary Meeting, held in Luxembourg from July 6 to 11. The meeting saw participation from representatives of 181 financial intelligence units (FIUs) globally.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the event marked the 30th anniversary of the Egmont Group and concentrated on several strategic priorities. These included enhancing the operational independence and autonomy of FIUs to ensure their effectiveness, securing adequate resources to combat illicit financing, and discussing future developments of the Egmont Secure Web for the continued safe exchange of sensitive information.

During the meeting, a significant announcement was made by the Egmont Group, declaring June 9 as International FIU Day. This day will be observed annually to acknowledge the crucial role of FIUs in combating financial crimes and promoting international transparency.

The Egmont Group also expressed appreciation for Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed's contributions and dedicated efforts during her tenure as the Group's Deputy Chair and Regional Representative for the MENA region. Her role has been pivotal in strengthening regional and international cooperation in fighting financial crimes and in supporting the Group's objectives of reinforcing the global network of FIUs.
