Manama: Under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Finance Minister has launched the Githa Strategy and announced the Food City Project. Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy and Chairman of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company, revealed these initiatives to enhance food security and boost national capabilities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the strategy of Bahrain Food Holding Company (Ghitha) and the food park project, in collaboration with Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah), mark significant strides in the Kingdom's food sector. The Minister emphasized Bahrain's ongoing efforts to develop sustainable food security plans through strategic initiatives and projects.
During the launch event, attended by Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, CEO of Mumtalakat, and other officials, the importance of the private sector as a partner in achieving food security was highlighted. Ghitha's strategy is set to build an integrated food ecosystem, increase local production, and establish sustainable food production foundations.
Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa underscored Mumtalakat's commitment to the food sector, focusing on value creation within its assets. The partnership between Ghitha and Edamah to launch the Food Park, covering an estimated area of one million square metres, will serve as a centre for food production, manufacturing, and distribution.
Basim Al Saie, Chairman of Ghitha, expressed pride in launching the new strategy, aiming for collaboration with public and private sectors to drive investments and enhance local competencies. Ghitha also announced its new identity as the holding company for Mumtalakat's food-related assets, with plans for future investments and job creation, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
