Senate President, Faisal Fayez, stressed importance of building on the “strategic” partnership between Jordan and the United States, underscoring need to continue efforts to develop it in various fields, especially in the political and economic areas. Chairing a meeting held Thursday by the Senate’s Jordanian-U.S. Parliamentary Friendship Committee, with US Ambassador to the Kingdom, Henry Wooster, Fayez referred to Jordan’s current reform process in various political, economic and administrative fields. Reforms, he noted, aim to implement directives and vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to strengthen parliamentary and party life, form parliamentary governments, enhance popular participation and empower women and youth. He also noted this process seeks to enable Jordan to face economic challenges, reduce poverty and unemployment problems, boost investment environment, and provide the “best” services to citizens, which would lead to sustainable and comprehensive development. Fayez highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II’s efforts to end the region’s conflicts and restore its security and stability. Moreover, he stressed importance of the U.S. role and countries sponsoring the peace process, to stop the hostile operations committed by Israeli occupation army and settlers against the Palestinian people, with support of extreme right-wing Israeli government, the last of which was attack on Jenin city and its camp.
