Egypt, US underscore need to resolve crises politically

Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi on Wednesday held talks with visiting US congressmen concurring with them on the necessity to resolve nations’ crises with political means.

Ahmad Fahmy, spokesman of the Egyptian Presidency, said in a statement that president Al-Sisi held the talks with a broad delegation of US legislators from the Republican the Democrats’ parties, including chairperson of the external affairs committee in the Senate, Robert Menendez, and senator Lidsey Garaham.

He said the two sides discussed a host of regional and international issues namely the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its geopolitical, economic repercussions, means of bolstering global peace and security, and regional affairs namely the crises in Sudan, Libya and Syria.

The discussions, Fahmy added, touched on current negotiations among Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan, noting that president Al-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s commitment to the objective of reaching a mandatory legal accord on filling and operating Al-Nahda dam, with consideration to the three countries’ interests.

The president affirmed Cairo’s unwavering support for a just settlement that ensures rights of the Palestinian people and leads to establishing their independent state.

Famy added that the president, during the meeting with the US legislators, shed light on Egypt’s efforts against terrorism and extremism, boosting human rights, religious tolerance and coexistence among nations.

He indicated that the two sides underscored solidity of the Egyptian-US strategic partnership that dates back to decades ago and touched on means of boosting American investments in the nation.
