Manama: The General Directorate of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal University for Women (RUW) to provide educational programmes and specialised training courses for the directorate's personnel and beneficiaries of alternative sentences.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the MoU was signed by Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Director-General of Verdict Enforcement and Alternative Sentencing, and Professor Riyadh Yousif Hamzah, President of the RUW.
Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid stated that this cooperation aligns with the reform-oriented vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The initiative aims to develop the reform system by balancing security and promoting social rehabilitation. He highlighted the commitment of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, to applying international standards in alternative sentencing and open prisons.
The signing of the MoU is viewed as a significant step in the directorate's efforts to rehabilitate and empower beneficiaries of alternative sentences. This is achieved by enabling them to obtain academic education and vocational training for positive reintegration into society post-sentence. Additionally, the programmes aim to enhance the efficiency of the directorate's personnel in administrative and rehabilitative areas.
Professor Riyadh Yousif Hamzah expressed pride in cooperating with the Ministry of Interior. He noted that the university intends to support initiatives in rehabilitation, reform, and social reintegration as part of its social responsibility. The university will provide academic and training programmes to enhance education and development opportunities for beneficiaries.
The MoU outlines joint educational and training programmes that focus on personal and professional skill development, leadership, entrepreneurship, and other areas. It also offers study opportunities for beneficiaries within a supportive academic environment.
At the signing ceremony's conclusion, Shaikh Khalid bin Rashid presented a commemorative shield to Professor Riyadh Yousif Hamzah, appreciating the university's support in rehabilitation and educational programmes. This gesture underscores the importance of ongoing cooperation to further the success of the alternative sentencing project, reflecting the humanitarian justice principles of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
