Deputy Prime Minister Reviews EWA’s Impressive Summer Performance at Hidd Control Centre

Hidd: Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister, conducted a visit to the Electricity and Water Authority's (EWA) Control Centre in Hidd to assess the Authority's performance results for the summer of 2025, spanning the period from May to September.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Shaikh Khalid was greeted by Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, President of EWA, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and other senior officials. During the visit, he was briefed on the positive performance results achieved by EWA, which demonstrate the Authority's dedication to maintaining high levels of operational readiness and reliability through early planning, teamwork, and advanced digital technologies for monitoring and control.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Bahrain's ongoing progress in modernizing and developing its infrastructure aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. This progress supports the Kingdom's comprehensive development goals and reflects the aspirations of its citizens.

Shaikh Khalid noted that the achievements in electricity and water sectors result from a national focus on modern technologies to ensure service continuity, efficiency, and reliability while optimizing resource use. He highlighted the importance of electricity and water as essential sectors that underpin Bahrain's development, emphasizing effective planning and operational systems that meet the needs of the growing population and urban growth.

Expressing gratitude, the Deputy Prime Minister commended Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed and the EWA employees for their dedication and professionalism. He acknowledged the positive results as a testament to "Team Bahrain" and the commitment of national cadres in delivering high-quality, sustainable services.

Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed expressed his gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa for the government's continued support, which has been pivotal in achieving the strong operational results this year. He also thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for his visit, noting that it underscores the Ministerial Committee for Development Projects and Infrastructure's attention to the Authority's performance and strategic projects.

EWA's performance results for the summer showed a 40.5% decrease in electricity outage cases compared to the previous year, with most related to internal connections. The Authority restored power to 90% of cases within an hour, demonstrating readiness and rapid response capability.

Internationally recognized performance indicators showed significant improvement, with network outages reduced by 58.3% and outage duration decreased by 57.5% compared to the previous year. These are the lowest figures in the past five years, highlighting the strength and reliability of Bahrain's electricity networks and the efficacy of preventive maintenance programs.

The peak electricity load reached 4,017 megawatts, a 3% annual growth, while total generation capacity reached 5,044 megawatts, confirming the network's capability to meet increased demand during summer months. Water supply issue reports declined compared to previous summers, with cases resolved within six hours, demonstrating effective network management.

In terms of customer experience, EWA's re-engineering of more than 27 services resulted in a 7% increase in digital channel usage and a 12% decrease in contact center calls. The Authority introduced an AI-powered outage management system to enhance field operations and power restoration, alongside launching a unified digital portal to improve online service access.
