Day Two of Smart Cities Summit Highlights Sector Integration, Showcases Innovation, Sustainability Models

Manama: The second day of the 8th Bahrain Smart Cities Summit 2025, held on April 15 and 16, focused on cross-sector integration to advance smart cities, showcasing Bahrain's achievements and regional and global innovation models in sustainability.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Mohamed Jasim Al Mehaiza, Chief of ICT Projects at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, spoke about Bahrain's Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (NTP6). He highlighted its role in enabling smart infrastructure, digital transformation, and full 5G coverage. The plan includes 30 initiatives across digital governance, cybersecurity, investment, and green digitisation.

Sessions featured Gulf experiences in smart city legislation, smart irrigation, and urban greening targets, aiming for 100% green space by 2035 and a 40% emissions reduction. Experts emphasised the need for smart planning and sustainable building practices.

Discussion papers from the Survey and Land Registration Bureau showcased AI-based systems for urban monitoring and land registration. The Ministry of Interior highlighted efforts to combat cyber fraud using AI and public awareness tools.

Further discussions addressed Bahrain's smart transport strategy, current traffic challenges, and the development of a flexible, sustainable mobility network. Other topics included digital real estate data, 3D virtual tours, eSIM technology, and waste reuse solutions.

Participants underscored the importance of regional partnerships and innovation to achieve smart, sustainable urban development.
