Manama: Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of Customs, engaged in a videoconference with the University of Nottingham, accredited by the European Union, to explore a research study focused on future technologies applicable in border security and customs.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting concentrated on enhancing communication between modern technologies and technical systems, and explored mechanisms for employing these technologies to advance customs procedures. The discussion emphasized aligning these procedures with rapid technological advancements to streamline processes, improve operational efficiency, bolster risk management, and reinforce transparency.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad further elaborated on Customs Affairs' experience with the "Ofoq" customs clearance system. This system supports customs operations and related government procedures, incorporating internationally developed procedures, best global practices, and smart solutions. He also highlighted the single-window project for joint border control, an electronic gateway based on international best practices and leading smart solutions. The meeting underscored the use of advanced inspection technologies by Customs Affairs, including X-ray units for inspecting incoming containers and trucks, handheld devices for detecting narcotics and hazardous materials, and specialized equipment for inspecting parcels and luggage.
The Customs President's involvement in the meeting underscores his extensive experience in international customs work and his role as Chair of the World Customs Organisation Council, highlighting the Kingdom's distinguished position and significant role in advancing the global customs system.
