Muscat: MP Ahmed Sabah Al Saloom, Chairman of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, and MP Hasan Eid Bukhammas, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee at the Council of Representatives, participated in the fourth meeting of the Advisory Board of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during its 29th session, held in the Sultanate of Oman. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan Al Khalifa, President of the 29th session of the Advisory Board.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Advisory Board reviewed draft reports by committees tasked with studying the future of GCC strategic approaches towards digital currencies, the impact of digital and technological transformation on the labour market in GCC countries, and means to curb conspicuous consumption in Gulf societies. The Advisory Board also discussed proposed new topics for consideration during its 30th session and the date of the first meeting of the 30th session, scheduled for next January.
Al Saloom and Bukhammas conveyed Bahrain's commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to promoting joint GCC action to ensure security, prosperity, progress, and comprehensive development. They highlighted the dedication of the Council of Representatives, chaired by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, to advancing legislative work, enhancing coordination among GCC legislative councils, and addressing priority national issues that align with citizens' aspirations and support sustainable development in Bahrain.
The MPs emphasized that in light of the current geopolitical tensions and the continued Iranian threats against Arab Gulf countries, it is crucial for GCC countries to enhance integration and coordination in collaboration with regional and international partners to prioritize Gulf security.
The Advisory Board meeting forms part of a series of regular gatherings aimed at examining and discussing legislative and strategic issues while following up on the implementation of previous recommendations. It also focuses on improving parliamentary performance, boosting the Supreme Council's role in achieving national objectives, enhancing cooperation among its various committees, and coordinating efforts to support legislation that fosters economic and social development and national security, thereby reinforcing national responsibility and strengthening parliamentary action in overcoming challenges and achieving aspirations.
