COPA America ’24… Uruguay, Panama to knockout tourney stage


Uruguay and Panama advanced to the knockout stage of 2024 COPA America tournament held in the US via wins against the host team USA and Bolivia in Group C.

At the Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, team USA were ousted from the tournament after suffering a defeat by Uruguay.

The sole goal of the game came from Mathias Olivera at the 66 minute.

In the second matchup between Bolivia and Panama, the latter crossed the threshold into the advance stages of COPA America beating their opponents by 3-1.

The match, held in Inter and Co Stadium in downtown Orlando, Florida, saw Panama scoring at the 22, 79, 90 minutes through Jose Fajardo, Eduardo Guerrero, and Cesar Yanis respectively. Bolivia scored through Bruno Miranda at the 69 minute.

Group C is now topped by Uruguay with nine points, followed by Panama with six, while the team USA and Bolivia ended their campaign in third and fourth place with three and zero points.

Upcoming matches will see Brazil playing against Colombia and Costa Rica battling
it off against Paraguay in Group D.

Colombia and Brazil top Group D with five and four points respectively. Costa Rica and Paraguay are in third and fourth positions.

Argentina, Canada, Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama, and Colombia have qualified to the knockout stages of the tournament.

COPA America 2024 began on June 20 and will continue until July 14
