Manama: China launched the ‘Fengyun-3 08’ satellite on Saturday from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in the country’s northwest, in a step to enhance its capacity for weather monitoring and tackling climate change.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the satellite was successfully launched at 3:28 a.m. Beijing time aboard a Long March-4C carrier rocket and entered its planned orbit.
The satellite carries nine remote sensing payloads, including a medium resolution spectral imager and a microwave imager, to support weather forecasting, atmospheric chemistry studies, and climate change research.
The China National Space Administration said the satellite would contribute to improving global numerical weather prediction, enhancing climate change response, and strengthening disaster prevention. The launch marked the 596th mission of the Long March rocket series.
