China Adopts New Atomic Energy Law

Beijing: Chinese lawmakers have adopted a new law to regulate research, development, and the peaceful use of atomic energy. The legislation was passed during a session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the law consists of 62 articles and stipulates that China will fulfill its obligations under international treaties it has signed or joined. It also establishes a nuclear security system to strengthen safety in atomic energy research, development, and use.

The law underlines China's commitment to the peaceful use of atomic energy, encourages international cooperation, and calls for sharing the benefits of peaceful applications.

It prohibits all forms of nuclear proliferation activities, seeks to prevent and counter nuclear terrorism, and promotes building a fair, cooperative, and mutually beneficial international nuclear security system.

The law will take effect on January 15, 2026.
