Child Protection Unit Urges Parental Monitoring of Children’s Smart Device Usage Amid Current Developments

Manama: The Child Protection Unit in Cyberspace Unit at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security has called on parents to closely monitor their children's use of smart devices and electronic applications amid current developments, aiming to ensure their safety and protection from potential risks in cyberspace.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the unit stressed the importance of educating children on several key guidelines. These include refraining from sharing or reposting news, images, or videos related to the current situation, avoiding calls for gatherings that violate the law, and refraining from photographing military movements or ongoing attacks, as these actions may have legal and security consequences.

The unit also emphasized the need to guide children not to communicate with unknown persons through social media platforms or electronic applications, and to avoid sharing personal information or their geographic location with any party. Furthermore, it urged children to refrain from writing or posting offensive or unlawful comments across electronic platforms.

The unit advised children to inform their parents immediately if they encounter any content or communication through social media that causes fear or concern, to ensure such cases are addressed promptly and appropriately.

The importance of continuous parental supervision and awareness of the risks associated with social media applications and online platforms was highlighted, along with ensuring that children are exposed to safe content and guided on the appropriate steps to take when faced with any threat or risk.

The unit called on parents to contact it if they suspect any activity that may pose a risk to children's safety. This can be done by visiting in person, calling the direct number (33523300), emailing ([email protected]), contacting the hotline of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security (992), or through the "MyGov" application.
