Chairman of the Energy Committee in the HoR deplores the statement of the US ambassador regarding Libyan oil.

The Chairman of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee in the House of Representatives (HoR), Essa Arebi, denounced the statement of the US Ambassador, Richard Norland, and Special Envoy to Libya about Libyan oil and considered it an interference in the internal affairs of Libya.

Arebi said in a statement that what Norland cares about is the flow of oil and gas, and he does not look at the suffering of the people of Barga, Fezzan, and some areas of Tripoli, nor does he look at the corruption of what he described as the outgoing government.

He added that the matter of shutting down the oil is a Libyan matter, and we refuse to interfere in this regard. We also stress the fair distribution of wealth among all Libyans.

The US urges, through its ambassador, Libyan political actors to abandon threats of an oil shutdown that would be highly destructive to Libya’s economy and hurt all Libyans.

“We call on Libyan leaders to implement an inclusive revenue management mechanism as a constructive way to address grievances over the distribution of oil revenues and instill transparency without compromising Libya’s economic health or the apolitical nature of the NOC.” Norland said in a tweet on Friday.
