Canada revives hope of qualifying to knock-out stages of ’24 COPA America


Canada revived its hope of qualifying to the next round out of group stages in 2024 COPA America by beating Peru 1-0 while Argentina eased its way for the next round by thrashing Chile with one goal to nil on Wednesday.

The first half of the Canada-Peru clash at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas ended scoreless. Peru’s defender Miguel Araujo was sent off in minute 59 thus allowing the Canadians to control the tempo of the game.

Forward Jonathan David’s goal in the 74th minute revived hopes for the Canadians to move to the knock-out stages.

Meanwhile in New Jersey, Argentina secured a late win over Chile when forward Lautaro Martinez scored the team’s only goal in the last 10 minutes of the encounter.

Argentina lead the group with six points, while Canada, while has three points, and Chile, with one, would meet in the last round of the group stages.
