Campaign launched in Gaza to demand lifting Israeli blockade

An international campaign kicked off in the Gaza Strip Saturday with the participation of representatives of Palestinian factions and civil society institutions to break the Israeli blockade of the enclave and open its sea ports with the world. Launching the campaign at Gaza Port, head of the government information office in the coastal territory Salameh Marouf said Israel continued to block fishermen from going out to sea, confiscate their boats and arrest them. The siege has caused losses of about 43% of Ministry of Health medicines and more than 25% of medical items, while dozens of medical devices and equipment are barred from reaching medical facilities, he said. He also said that the Israeli blockade caused the destruction of more than 2,500 establishments and factories amid repeated Israeli attacks on the enclave, while banning the entry of raw materials, which exacerbated the suffering of “our people in Gaza.” Head of the Union of Cultural Centers Yousri Darwish called for supporting the campaign to open Gaza ports and lift the Israeli siege, noting that the campaign, including 25 gatherings to be held in Arab and European cities, is to send one message “open the Gaza ports”. He said lifting the siege is the responsibility of the world and the United Nations, and demanded ending the double standard in international positions and dealing with the occupation that targets the entire existence of Palestinians.
