Cairo, Ankara underline immediate Gaza ceasefire

Egypt and Turkiye on Wednesday stressed the need to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

This came in a phone contact between Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, in which they discussed bilateral relations and arrangements for a joint strategic council meeting, the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesman Ambassador Ahmad Abu Zeid said in a press statement.

He added that both sides had warned of conflict spillover and instability in the region in the aftermath of the escalation between Lebanon and the Israeli occupation.

Both sides underlined that it is necessary to work together to ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip amid tough humanitarian circumstances due to Israeli occupation restrictions.
