Manama: The Board of Directors of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) convened for its first regular meeting of 2026, under the leadership of Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism and Chairperson of the Authority's Board. The meeting was attended by Sara Ahmed Buhejii, Chief Executive Officer of BTEA, and focused on reviewing the performance and strategic direction of the tourism sector. According to Bahrain News Agency, the Board evaluated key performance indicators for the tourism sector in 2025, highlighting the arrival of over 15 million visitors to Bahrain as a notable achievement. The progress of the Tourism Sector Strategy 2022-2026 was assessed, with particular attention paid to the positive outcomes of the Bahrain Festive Season 2025, which significantly impacted tourism performance indicators. The Board also discussed the latest developments in marketing and promotional plans for the current year. It examined upcoming events on the Authority's calendar, including majo r exhibitions and festivals expected to bolster the tourism sector. Further discussions were held on tourism plans and projects designed to enhance Bahrain's tourism appeal. This included infrastructure development initiatives and projects in collaboration with private sector partners. The meeting also provided updates on the international wedding tourism segment that has been attracted to the Kingdom. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Bahrain's tourism sector. The Board emphasized the importance of intensifying initiatives to attract more international events, aiming to solidify Bahrain's position as a leading tourism destination in the region.
