Manama: Sara Ahmed Buhiji, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), chaired an extraordinary virtual meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tourism undersecretaries. The meeting was part of Bahrain's presidency of the 46th session of the GCC and focused on discussing the impact of the Iranian attacks on the tourism sector in GCC countries.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Buhiji emphasized the necessity of enhancing coordination and integration among GCC states to tackle current challenges, especially considering recent developments affecting various sectors, including tourism. She highlighted that GCC countries are continuing to build on achievements in the tourism sector, leveraging strong tourism assets to maintain their status as regional and international destinations. Buhiji affirmed that GCC states possess the capability to address the impacts of recent developments and support the sector's ongoing growth.
The meeting also examined several agenda items, including a proposed recovery plan and its key objectives. Discussions centered on defining the roles of relevant entities and enhancing coordination frameworks among GCC countries to foster growth in the regional tourism sector.
