BOU HABIB WELCOMES ARMENIAN MINISTER, STRESSES NEED TO OPEN LACHIN CORRIDOR

Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Dr. Abdallah Bou Habib, on Wednesday met with Armenian Ambassador to Lebanon, Vahagn ATABEKYAN, who requested “Lebanon’s reaffirmation of its position in support of the reopening of the Lachin corridor.” In turn, Minister Bou Habib expressed his “deep concern about the deterioration of the humanitarian situation as a result of the continued closure of the Lachin crossing in Nagorno-Karabakh, which causes humanitarian, health, and livelihood pressure on the population and disrupts commercial movement.” Bou Habib also stressed “the importance of providing appropriate conditions for bilateral negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.” The Minister then reaffirmed the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ position, calling for ‘the adoption of dialogue as a means of resolving differences, away from the use of civilians or their right to access humanitarian aid as a means of pressure to achieve political goals, and the need to open the Lachin corridor, given its vital importance to the population.”
