Manama: Isa Al Shaiji, Chairman of the Bahrain Journalists Association, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Bahraini journalistic and media community to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the royal order allocating land and funding for a dedicated headquarters for the association. He described the royal initiative as recognition of the national role of Bahraini journalism in serving the country and society, and as a demonstration of His Majesty’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for media professionals.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Shaiji also conveyed thanks for HM the King’s reception of the association’s board members and his ratification of the Press and Electronic Media Law, noting that these steps mark a milestone in the development of Bahrain’s media sector. He highlighted that HM the King’s guidance emphasised the responsibilities of Bahrain’s press under the new law, which strengthens freedom of expression while regulating electronic media, and supports the professionalism and credibility of journalists.
He recalled HM the King’s historical initiatives to advance press freedom, including establishing Bahrain Press Day, promoting independent media, and participating annually in World Press Freedom Day celebrations to reinforce the importance of an informed, responsible, and vibrant press.
Al Shaiji commended the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for its continued support of the national press, particularly amid global challenges facing the media sector.
He added that HM the King’s recognition serves as a call for journalists to uphold their duties with dedication and integrity, contributing to Bahrain’s ongoing development and prosperity.
