Sakhir: Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), known as 'The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East', is set to host three days of in-season testing for the FIA Formula 2 Championship and the FIA Formula 3 Championship this week. The tests are scheduled from Wednesday to Friday in Sakhir, providing a platform for teams to fine-tune their performance between the first and second rounds of their 2025 calendars.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the Formula 1 feeder championships began their campaigns in Melbourne, Australia earlier this month. Both championships are slated to be part of the support race program during the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025, occurring from April 11-13 at BIC. This event will mark the second round of their respective seasons.
The testing sessions are designed to simulate a range of conditions, with F3 taking the first slot on track from 9.30 am to 12 noon and again from 3.15 pm to 5.45 pm. F2 will follow from 12.30 pm to 3 pm and then from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. The sessions will not be open to spectators, allowing teams to focus on their preparations.
F2, now in its ninth season, continues to be a crucial stepping stone for drivers aiming to enter Formula 1. Notable F1 drivers who have progressed from F2 include Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell, among others. Meanwhile, F3 is ushering in a new era with the latest Dallara-built car, aligning more closely with F2 and F1 standards, including the use of Aramco's advanced fuel meeting the FIA's 100% sustainable fuel standard.
Both F2 and F3 are scheduled for two races each during the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025, featuring Sprint Races on Saturday and Feature Races on Sunday. The support series program will also include the Bahrain-based Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East.
In recent races, Joshua Durksen of AIX Racing secured victory in the F2 Sprint Race in Melbourne, with the Feature Race canceled due to weather. In F3, Santiago Ramos of Van Amersfoort Racing won the Sprint Race, and Rafael Camara of Trident claimed the Feature Race victory.
