The UN envoy to Libya, Abdullah Batili, stressed the importance of intensifying relief efforts in an urgent, unified and coordinated manner, while taking into account transparency and accountability in the use of resources during the recovery and reconstruction process.
This came during Presidential Council President Mohamed Al-Manfi’s reception on Sunday of Batili, who expressed his deep condolences to him on behalf of the United Nations regarding the recent disaster in Derna and other affected areas.
Batili said through his account on the (X) platform, “I briefed Al-Manfi on some observations from my visit to Derna yesterday, praising the steadfastness and cohesion of the Libyan people.”
The UN envoy renewed his support for the Supreme Finance Committee, proposing the establishment of a comprehensive mechanism to supervise recovery efforts, set priorities, and ensure accountability, which would help restore normal life and enable people to resume their lives.
Batili stressed the urgent need to unify national institutions to respond effectively to all the challenges facing the nation.
