Batili calls for an end to the marginalization suffered by the southern region and praises the role of its notables in promoting a culture of coexistence and reconciliation.

The UN envoy to Libya expressed his appreciation for the role played by notables and dignitaries of Southern Libya in promoting a culture of coexistence and reconciliation between the various societal components.

This came during a meeting that “Batili” held today, Sunday, with a group of prominent dignitaries and notables of society in the south, according to a tweet he posted on his Twitter account.

“Today, in the city of Sebha, I conducted a useful dialogue with a group of prominent notables of society who reflect the cultural diversity in the south,” Batili said. I expressed my appreciation for their role in promoting a culture of coexistence and reconciliation between the various societal components.

I urged them to continue their constructive role in the national reconciliation process and to keep pace with local efforts with national efforts in support of free, fair, inclusive and peaceful elections across Libya in 2023.

According to “Batili,” the notables called for an end to the marginalization that the southern region suffers from, calling for a more equitable distribution of resources, as well as for the appropriate involvement of Fezzan in the various tracks of dialogue to support the electoral process.

He stressed the need for the people of the south in Libya to be able to enjoy the bounties that abound in their land and to empower them economically and socially to fully enjoy equal citizenship.

During the meeting, the UN envoy said, “The time has come to achieve social justice, the just distribution of national wealth, and the promotion of reconciliation and peace.”

He emphasized that the people of Fezzan, like all their brothers and sisters across Libya, should have access to better and more developed infrastructure, education and health care. Stressing the need for Fezzan to participate appropriately in the national actions aimed at rebuilding this country.
