Manama: Batelco by Beyon and Bahrain Network (BNET) have entered into a strategic agreement to deploy the landing and inland infrastructure necessary for the SEA-ME-WE 6 (SMW6) and Al-Khaleej submarine cable systems. The partnership is set to establish a solid foundation for these systems, facilitating their integration into Bahrain's national and international connectivity network.
According to Bahrain News Agency, BNET will be responsible for deploying the critical landing infrastructure, which includes the construction of the sea headwall, beach manhole, and the deployment of fronthaul and backhaul connectivity on protected routes from the Cable Landing Station (CLS) to the international gateway. This project is expected to enhance Bahrain's role as a regional connectivity hub by improving international capacity, speed, network resilience, and low latency connectivity, thus supporting the growing demand for cloud services, digital content, and next-generation technologies.
Maitham Abdulla, CEO of Batelco, expressed pride in leading this initiative as the Bahrain landing party for SMW6 in collaboration with BNET. He emphasized that this strategic deployment underscores Batelco's dedication to advancing Bahrain's digital economy and national digital transformation agenda, positioning the Kingdom as a crucial regional gateway for data and connectivity.
Ahmed Jaber Aldoseri, CEO of BNET, highlighted the significance of the partnership with Batelco as a prime example of national collaboration in shaping Bahrain's telecommunications future. He noted that the project is a testament to BNET's commitment to creating an advanced digital infrastructure that aligns with Bahrain's vision for sustainable digital transformation.
The SMW6 submarine cable system connects several countries across three continents, with landing points from Asia to Europe. It delivers ultra-high capacity and low-latency connectivity to meet the increasing global demand for cloud services, digital content, and international data traffic.
The Al Khaleej cable, owned and operated by Batelco by Beyon, is a regional submarine network that boosts connectivity between Bahrain and neighboring Gulf countries. Together with SMW6, it ensures seamless integration between regional and global routes, offering resilience, speed, and diverse access.
