Ban on Kingfish Fishing in Bahrain to End October 16

Hanoi:The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) announced the lifting of the kingfish fishing ban in Bahrain's territorial waters. The ban, which also included the display and sale of kingfish for marketing or commercial purposes, will conclude on Friday, October 16, as the designated ban period ends.

According to Bahrain News Agency, The seasonal ban was implemented under Legislative Decree (20) of 2002, which focuses on the Regulation of Fishing, Exploitation and Protection of Marine Resources. This measure aligns with the decisions made by the GCC Agricultural Cooperation Committee at its 23rd meeting, aimed at safeguarding kingfish stocks.

The ban, effective from August 15 to October 15, coincided with the kingfish breeding season. Its primary goal was to enhance fish stocks by regulating fishing activities, thus preventing the depletion of fishing grounds and maintaining marine ecological balance.

The SCE praised the cooperation and national responsibility demonstrated by fishermen during the ban period. It also encouraged continued adherence to regulations to support the conservation and sustainability of Bahrain's national fish stocks.
