Manama:Bahrain increased its medal tally at the 20th Asian Games to 14 medals, comprising nine gold, two silver, and three bronze, maintaining seventh place overall and first among Arab countries. This achievement came after Bahraini champion Winfred Yavi secured another gold medal for the Kingdom, her third at the Games.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Yavi added another gold to Bahrain's tally after taking first place in the women's 5,000 meters, underlining her strong performance in the athletics competitions. The victory marked her third gold medal at this edition of the Games and raised Bahrain's tally to nine gold medals.
Yavi crossed the finish line in first place in 9:10.18 minutes, continuing her strong performance on the Aichi-Nagoya track. This achievement added to her campaign after having already topped the podium on two previous occasions, making her one of Bahrain's standout athletes at the Games.
In athletics, Bahrain's athletes continued their participation, with the mixed 4x100m relay team qualifying for the final after clocking 42.18 seconds, securing a place among the teams competing for the leading positions in the final.
Bahraini runner Nelly Korir also qualified for the women's 800m final after recording a time of 2:02.92 minutes, continuing her campaign for a medal in the event.
However, Bahrain's women's 4x100m relay team was unable to complete its race due to an error during the baton exchange, bringing its participation in the event to an end.
