Manama: Dr. Abdulatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in significant telephone discussions with various foreign ministers from Arab nations. The conversations focused on recent regional developments and Bahrain's diplomatic endeavors within the United Nations Security Council, particularly concerning Iranian actions against GCC countries and Jordan, the implications of the Strait of Hormuz's closure on global navigation and economy, and Bahrain's influential role during its presidency of the Security Council this April.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Al Zayani connected with His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia; His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the UAE; Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar; Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco; and Jasem Mohammed Al Budaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC.
The ministers and the Secretary-General praised Bahrain's efforts under its Security Council presidency and its initiative to propose a draft resolution to secure maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative responds to challenges threatening this crucial international trade route. They emphasized the importance of protecting international navigation, ensuring energy supply stability, maintaining global food supply chains, and bolstering regional and international security efforts.
Further discussions highlighted the necessity for ongoing coordination and consultation to mobilize international support, urging Iran to adhere to international law and international maritime norms as per the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Dr. Al Zayani expressed gratitude to his counterparts and the Secretary-General for their support during Bahrain's presidency and the submission of the draft resolution focused on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. He reiterated Bahrain's commitment to continued consultation and coordination, aiming to preserve international peace and security and safeguard global economic interests, especially concerning energy, food, and medicine supplies.
