Bahraini Ambassador Participates in UN Conference on Landlocked Nations in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat: Bahraini Ambassador to Trkiye, Bassam Ahmed Marzooq, attended the 3rd United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries held in the Awaza coastal area of Turkmenistan. The conference, scheduled from August 5-8, focused on addressing the unique challenges faced by landlocked developing nations.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Marzooq delivered Bahrain's speech during the event, which concentrated on the Awaza Programme of Action for 2024-2034. This program, adopted by the UN General Assembly last December, aims to address key areas crucial for the development of landlocked countries.

The Awaza Programme of Action encompasses five priority areas: structural transformation, infrastructure and connectivity, trade facilitation, regional integration, and building resilience. To support these areas, the program introduces five key initiatives. These include establishing a global infrastructure investment facility to address funding gaps, creating regional agricultural research centers to enhance food security, and setting up a high-level UN committee on freedom of transit to ensure smoother border flows. Additionally, digital connectivity initiatives will be launched to reduce the digital divide, and a dedicated trade program for landlocked developing countries will be developed within the World Trade Organization.
