Budapest: Bahrain's national wrestling team is participating in the Ranking Series Championship, organised by the Hungarian Wrestling Federation under the supervision of United World Wrestling, from July 15 to 19 in Budapest. The championship features strong international participation from top-ranked wrestlers globally.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the event holds considerable importance for Bahrain's team, as it provides a key opportunity for athletes to improve their international rankings, which are essential for qualifying for major upcoming competitions. The national delegation is led by Bahrain Wrestling Federation (BWF) board member, Kamal Jamal Kamal, and includes technical director and coach Eldar Eldarov.
Competing for Bahrain in the championship are wrestlers Ali Bek Albekov (65 kg), Mohammed Rasul Asloev (74 kg), Khudayr Saifudinov (79 kg), Mohammed Sharipov (92 kg), Olympic champion Akhmed Tazhudinov (97 kg), and Shamil Sharipov (125 kg). This participation is crucial as it follows the team's recent success at the International Spain Championship in Madrid, where Bahrain secured five medals-four gold and one bronze-earning first place in the overall freestyle team rankings.
The Ranking Series Championship is considered a key challenge, offering valuable ranking points and technical experience as the team prepares for future global competitions, including Olympic qualifying events.
