Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain has welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump of a two-week ceasefire agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran, along with understandings to fully, immediately, and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz. A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that this development could help foster a positive environment for diplomacy and de-escalation in the Middle East, and commended the constructive mediation efforts of Pakistan, which contributed to the agreement. According to Bahrain News Agency, the Ministry emphasised that this step should lead to an immediate and comprehensive halt to all hostile and unjustified Iranian attacks against Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). It also underscored the need for Iran to fully comply with its obligations under international law, including the principles of good neighbourliness and relevant international resolutions. T he Ministry further called for a sustainable resolution that ensures Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons, halts the development and proliferation of ballistic missiles and drones, and refrains from activities that could destabilise regional and global security, including the use of proxy groups and interference in the internal affairs of other states. The Ministry also reaffirmed Bahrain's support for ongoing regional and international mediation efforts aimed at consolidating the ceasefire and achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. It stressed the importance of protecting civilians and critical infrastructure, safeguarding maritime and air navigation, and ensuring the continued operation of vital waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz. It further highlighted the importance of these measures for maintaining global energy stability, securing trade flows, and promoting long-term regional and international peace and prosperity.
