Amman: Bahrain has introduced new artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives aimed at fostering peace and dialogue, as announced by Ali Abdulla Al Aradi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance. The Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to using modern technologies, including AI, to promote a culture of peace and dialogue, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the policies of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the King Hamad Global Centre has launched two AI-driven projects, Smart Assistant 1 and Smart Participant 1, during the Peace Schools Programme held in Jordan. This event was organized in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and in collaboration with the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME). The forum gathered experts, researchers, and youth from multiple countries.
Al Aradi delivered his remarks remotely, emphasizing Bahrain's efforts to integrate smart tools into parliamentary and legislative work. He highlighted the call by HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for a global treaty to regulate AI development and use it for peace and prosperity. The Centre's partnership with the IPU aims to build capacities and strengthen legislative frameworks to promote coexistence and tolerance.
Abdulla Isa Al Mannai, Executive Director of the King Hamad Global Centre, moderated panel discussions focusing on the role of AI and emerging technologies in promoting peace and rejecting extremism. He explained that Smart Assistant 1 is a digital platform designed to aid legislative and executive bodies, while Smart Participant 1 enhances engagement in dialogues with AI tools, emphasizing ethical technology use.
Participants at the programme recommended further development of the AI initiatives by the King Hamad Global Centre and proposed a curriculum for a future session in Vietnam. They also suggested drafting a code of ethics for AI to be presented at the IPU General Assembly in October, ensuring responsible technology use in promoting peace and coexistence.
