Bahrain U16 Basketball Team Secures Historic Arab Championship Victory

Cairo: The Bahrain under-16 national basketball team is set to return home after achieving a landmark victory by winning the 22nd Arab Basketball Championship in Cairo. This triumph marks the Kingdom's inaugural Arab title in basketball, highlighting a successful campaign that saw the team remain unbeaten throughout the tournament.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the team's success was bolstered by remarkable performances from players such as Sumto Patrick, who was honored as the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and Hussain Fouad, who claimed the award for three-point shooting.

The victory is a testament to the effectiveness of the Gold Generation Athletics League, an initiative spearheaded by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa. As the First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Shaikh Khalid has been instrumental in fostering and developing young sporting talent within the Kingdom.

Bahrain Basketball Association board member Mohammed Abdulsamad commended the team's achievement, attributing it to robust leadership support. He emphasized that this win will serve as a catalyst for further advancement in youth basketball, as the team prepares for the upcoming Asian Championship in Mongolia this September. Abdulsamad also noted that the ultimate objective is to secure a spot in the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup.
