Bahrain Tawjihiya Students Excel in RCSI Medical University of Bahrain Medicine Programme

Manama: Analysis of students who graduated from the RCSI Medical University of Bahrain medicine programme during the last six years has identified that the Bahrain Tawjihiya school qualification is a good predictor of the overall degree result.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Declan Gaynor, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Academic Director of Admissions at RCSI Bahrain, stated that students entering the medicine programme with the Bahrain Tawjihiya qualification are more likely to achieve honours in the degree when they have higher Bahrain Tawjihiya GPA. The qualification's reliability in predicting academic performance is critical for the university in admitting Tawjihiya students who are best suited to the rigorous programmes offered.

The report, which was presented to Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Higher Education Council (HEC), also examined the comparative performance of students with the Bahrain Tawjihiya qualification and other international high school qualifications. This analysis confirmed that Bahrain Tawjihiya students with English language proficiency of IELTS =6.5 are just as likely to achieve honours in the degree as students who enter the medicine programme with A-Level and International Baccalaureate qualifications.

During a meeting last week with Dr. Juma, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, expressed satisfaction at the performance of students from Bahrain government schools, noting that several of these students achieved the highest overall GPA during the degree programmes and were awarded the honour of being valedictorian speech graduates. Their performance gives confidence in the continued training of excellent doctors and nurses that will strengthen the healthcare sector in Bahrain.
