Manama: The Bahrain Space Agency took center stage as a keynote speaker at the launch event for the Middle East Space Law and Legislation Committee. This event was organized under the auspices of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS) and held under the patronage of its President, Professor Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the event focused on the Middle East's contribution to global space governance, exploring how legal frameworks can unlock strategic opportunities and the role of space law in enabling international cooperation. Al Emad further explained that the global space sector's expansion now involves more diverse participants, underscoring the necessity of legal frameworks for fostering innovation, investment, safety, and international collaboration. She noted Bahrain's advancements, from the royal decree that established the agency to its engagement in international treaties like the Artemis Accords, and the development of national legislation on issues such as licensing, liability, insurance, spectrum use, and managing orbital debris.
The Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS), established in 1998 in Amman, Jordan, aims to promote space and astronomy sciences within the Arab region. It achieves this by organizing educational workshops and seminars and enhancing collaboration with academic and research institutions.
