Manama: The board of directors of the Bahrain Space Agency convened for its second quarterly meeting of the year, under the leadership of Shaikh Khalid bin Ali bin Jaber Al Khalifa, who serves as the Deputy National Security Advisor and Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Defence Council. Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Asiri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency, was also in attendance.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting commenced with the board extending their congratulations to Shaikha Hessa bint Ali Al Khalifa on her recent appointment as the Second Vice-Chair of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) during its 68th session in Austria. This appointment marks her as the first Arab Muslim woman to achieve this position. The board highlighted that this accomplishment is indicative of the ongoing development process spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The board recognized the efforts of the agency's management and staff in fostering growth and achievement, aligning with the vision of His Majesty the King and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. These efforts are conducted under the guidance of Lieutenant General His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor, Royal Guard Commander, and Secretary General of the Supreme Defence Council.
During the meeting, the board reviewed the Agency's significant accomplishments, discussed priority projects, and engaged in talks about topics related to the Agency's strategic plan for 2024-2028. The session also spotlighted international events and participations, alongside updates on initiatives to develop national capacities and community awareness, supporting the Agency's strategic goals in line with the national space policy.
Shaikh Khalid bin Ali expressed appreciation for the Agency's achievements in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Supreme Defence Council in recent times. He stressed the importance of maintaining efforts to enhance Bahrain's stature in the space sector.
