Geneva: Dr. Mohamed Ebrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), participated in the Outer Space Security Conference 2025, organized by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) in Geneva on 9-10 September. The conference, themed "Bridging Vision and Responsibility: Challenges and Opportunities for a Secure Space Future," brought together senior policymakers, space agency officials, industry leaders, academics, and representatives of civil society to explore the rapidly changing security landscape in outer space.
According to Bahrain News Agency, participants at the conference engaged in discussions on a broad array of critical issues, including the escalating risks associated with space debris, anti-satellite capabilities, and cyber threats. The event also addressed the growing intersection between civilian and military applications in space. Key sessions concentrated on the effects of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum communications, the vulnerabilities inherent in space systems and their terrestrial impacts, and the legal and political challenges posed by activities beyond the lunar orbit.
Dr. Al Aseeri highlighted that Bahrain's involvement in the conference underscores its expanding role in global discussions concerning the safety and sustainability of outer space. He emphasized that participation in such forums allows the Kingdom to contribute to building consensus and fostering enhanced international collaboration to safeguard essential space assets. He reiterated the BSA's dedication to cultivating advanced national expertise in space security and collaborating with global partners to ensure that outer space remains a secure and sustainable environment for future generations.
