Manama: The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) has concluded its "Building a Lunar Colony" Hackathon, organised in cooperation with Youth City 2030 at AlMabarrah AlKhalifia, with the participation of Bahraini youth aged 18 to 35 specialising in information technology, engineering, architecture, design, and science.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the hackathon was held over 48 consecutive hours and challenged participants to develop concepts for a sustainable lunar base capable of supporting human life on the Moon. Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Asiri, BSA Chief Executive Officer, stated that the event aligns with the agency's strategy to promote space science and foster innovation and creativity among Bahraini youth, in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. He emphasized the potential of Bahraini youth to contribute to the future of the Kingdom's space sector and strengthen Bahrain's regional and international position in space and advanced technologies.
The event included an external judging panel of experts and academics in engineering, science, research, and industry. The hackathon attracted significant participation, reflecting a growing interest among youth in space science and emerging technologies.
