Geneva: Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, delivered a statement on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as chair of the group, during the general debate on Agenda Item 2 at the 61st session of the Human Rights Council. The statement strongly condemned the Iranian missile attacks targeting the territories of the GCC states and Jordan, warning of the serious consequences of such unjustified attacks that threaten regional security and stability.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the statement stressed that targeting countries' territories, causing serious damage and hitting civilians and civilian facilities, constitutes a grave violation of the UN Charter, international law and international humanitarian law. The statement called for an immediate and complete end to these escalatory actions, underlining the importance of maintaining regional peace and security and promoting dialogue and diplomacy for the interest of the region's peoples.
