Bahrain Participates in GCC Meeting on IPU General Assembly Preparations

Manama: Bahrain's parliamentary delegation participated in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) parliamentary coordination meeting, held remotely, to discuss preparations for the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled to take place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from April 5-9. The delegation underscored its support for cooperation and consensus among the legislative councils and parliaments of the GCC states and emphasised the importance of continued coordination to unify parliamentary positions at regional and international conferences. The delegation commended the high level of consultation among GCC parliamentary leaders and members.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation was represented by Dr. Bassam Ismail Albinmohammed, a member of the Shura Council, and MP Hasan Ibrahim Hasan, a member of the Council of Representatives. The GCC parliamentary representatives also discussed nominations for vacant positions within the IPU's executive committee, permanent and subcommittees, as well as vacancies in the Bureau of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young Parliamentarians.

The representatives also explored means for cooperation between GCC legislative councils and the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), aiming to advance common interests and enhance parliamentary collaboration. They underscored the importance of meetings and exchange visits to further strengthen ties between both sides.
