Bahrain Lauds US-Led Agreement to Halt Lebanon Attacks as Key to Regional Stability

New york: The Kingdom of Bahrain expressed its concern regarding the recent military developments in southern Lebanon and the escalation in the region, which threatens Lebanon's security and stability and may impact regional security.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump of an agreement to cease hostilities on June 1, 2026, considering it a step towards de-escalation and the strengthening of security in Lebanon and the region. This statement was delivered by Ambassador Jamal Fares Al Ruwaie, the Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations, during an emergency session of the Security Council addressing the escalation in Lebanon.

In efforts to prevent escalation, the Permanent Representative praised the efforts of the United States in mediation and diplomatic endeavors aimed at stabilizing the situation and preventing conflict spread. He affirmed Bahrain's support for negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, expressing hope for results that contribute to security, respect for sovereignty, and peace in the region.

The Permanent Representative warned of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Lebanon, noting that military escalation would exacerbate civilian suffering and economic burdens. This necessitates international efforts to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian aid delivery.

Ambassador Al Ruwaie reiterated Bahrain's support for Lebanon's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He affirmed the rejection of violations of Lebanese sovereignty, threats to its security, or attempts to spread chaos. He stressed the importance of respecting Security Council resolutions and international efforts to halt military operations.

The Permanent Representative emphasized strengthening Lebanese state institutions and enabling them to assume sovereign and security responsibilities. He welcomed Lebanon's decision to restrict weapons to the state and its institutions, including disarming Hezbollah in line with Lebanese frameworks.

Ambassador Al Ruwaie concluded by affirming the importance of implementing Security Council Resolution 1701 and relevant resolutions to ensure respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and the cessation of hostilities. He stressed the need to support the Lebanese army and security forces in extending state authority, highlighting that Lebanon's stability represents a common regional and international interest.
