Manama: The Bahrain Journalists Association extended its deepest appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for designating May 7 as Bahraini Press Day. The association praised His Majesty's continued support for freedom of opinion and expression and responsible journalism as a fundamental pillar of the state of law and constitutional institutions.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Isa Al Shayji, Chairman of the Bahrain Journalists Association, also expressed appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his continued support for the national press and patronage of the Prime Minister's Journalism Award. This gesture reflects HRH's commitment to the role of responsible journalism in supporting national development.
Al Shayji congratulated members of the association and Bahrain's media community on the occasion, commending the national role played by journalists, broadcasters, writers, and media professionals in promoting awareness, strengthening national unity, and supporting the Kingdom's security and stability. He called for continued efforts to confront media misinformation and rumours, particularly on social media platforms, and to raise public awareness of attempts aimed at undermining social cohesion and national unity.
Al Shayji also urged journalists, writers, and intellectuals to continue promoting values of loyalty and belonging and to counter divisive and misleading narratives, stressing the importance of responsible and credible journalism. He highlighted the progress achieved by Bahrain's national press under the leadership of His Majesty the King, including the issuance of the new Press and Publications Law and the development of legislative frameworks that support freedom of opinion and expression.
Al Shayji affirmed that Bahrain will continue to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and coexistence, noting that the national press will remain committed to serving the Kingdom and defending its interests.
