Bahrain Highlights Women’s Leadership at IPU Assembly Panel

Arusha:Hala Ramzy Fayez, a member of Bahrain's Shura Council and Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Division delegation, took part in a panel discussion focused on women's leadership in diplomacy and peacebuilding. This event was part of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Arusha, Tanzania, from October 4 to 9.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Fayez emphasized that Bahrain's progress in empowering women is driven by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with continued support from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This support has led to a sustainable institutional approach to women's empowerment, supported by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and various national policies and programs.

Fayez also highlighted the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa in establishing a strong institutional framework for advancing Bahraini women and enhancing their leadership roles in diplomatic, parliamentary, and international arenas. These efforts have resulted in increased participation of women in public life and decision-making.

She noted that Bahrain's election to the United Nations-Women Executive Board for the 2026-2028 term underscores the country's active role in promoting women's advancement on an international level. This role is especially significant in diplomacy and peacebuilding, where women's involvement in mediation, dialogue, conflict resolution, and sustainable peace efforts is crucial.

Fayez stressed that parliaments must foster an environment for sustained women's participation through legislation, policies, and budgets. This includes promoting equal opportunities, preparing women leaders, and ensuring representation in diplomatic and parliamentary delegations. She affirmed the necessity of partnership between male and female parliamentarians to achieve shared institutional and societal goals through cooperative policymaking and decision-making.
