Manama:United Nations: Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director General of Bilateral Relations at Bahrain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers' annual coordination meeting. This meeting took place alongside the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali congratulated Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on his election as OIC Secretary-General. He expressed Bahrain's appreciation for the contributions of the outgoing Secretary-General, Hissein Ibrahim Taha.
Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali emphasized the significance of unity among OIC member states to tackle challenges in the Muslim world. He advocated for respect towards state sovereignty, non-interference in internal matters, and resolving disputes peacefully through dialogue.
He also condemned repeated Iranian attacks, urging the cessation of such acts and calling for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817. Stressing the importance of securing the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways, he reiterated Bahrain's right to self-defense under the UN Charter while supporting diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions.
Furthermore, Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali reaffirmed Bahrain's support for Palestinian rights, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution and international resolutions. He highlighted the necessity of maintaining the ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian aid, and facilitating reconstruction efforts.
The meeting also covered political and humanitarian situations in various Muslim countries, emphasizing political solutions and enhanced humanitarian responses. Ambassador Shaikh Abdullah bin Ali reiterated Bahrain's support for the OIC's mission to advance the interests of the Muslim world and promote peace and development among member states.
