Bahrain Highlights Role of UN Police at Security Council Briefing

New york: The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in a briefing to the United Nations Security Council on peacekeeping operations and police commissioners, during which Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Rowaiei, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, delivered Bahrain's statement.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain underscored the vital role of United Nations Police in maintaining international peace and security through support in conflict areas, post-conflict transitions, and peacebuilding initiatives. Bahrain called for strengthened international cooperation to enhance the capabilities of United Nations Police, build trust, ensure security, and promote community engagement.

Ambassador Al Rowaiei emphasised the importance of clear and flexible mandates for United Nations Police operations, transparent implementation timelines, and regular field-based reviews to ensure adaptability to emerging challenges and the optimal use of financial and human resources.

He highlighted the need to increase operational flexibility through the use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance the ability of United Nations Police to respond to evolving security environments and geopolitical challenges. He also emphasised the importance of strong partnerships with host countries through capacity building, institutional development, restructuring of security frameworks, and training programmes that enable national police forces to uphold public safety and the rule of law.

The Permanent Representative further underlined the importance of advancing the role of women and ensuring their participation across all areas of public life. He commended the progress made by United Nations Police in promoting gender equality and called for continued efforts to increase women's meaningful participation in peacekeeping operations, in line with the women, peace and security agenda.

Ambassador Al Rowaiei expressed Bahrain's anticipation of the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), scheduled for July 2026, as an opportunity to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in policing. He reiterated Bahrain's continued support for initiatives that strengthen United Nations Police operations in support of regional and international peace and stability.
