Bahrain Highlights Commitment to Girls’ Education at Human Rights Council Event

Geneva: Ambassador Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Bahrain's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, actively participated in a side event titled "Unlearning Discrimination: Education for Empowering Women and Girls." The event was co-hosted by the Permanent Missions of Bahrain and Qatar during the 59th session of the Human Rights Council, in collaboration with the Qatar Debate Centre and the Geneva Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Ambassador Abdullah, in his opening remarks, highlighted Bahrain's significant global position in girls' education. He noted that the Kingdom is among the top five countries worldwide where girls outperform boys in learning outcomes, as reported by the World Economic Forum and the World Bank.

He further detailed Bahrain's national initiatives aimed at promoting equal educational opportunities. These initiatives include support for technical and vocational education and the integration of human rights and citizenship principles into educational curricula.

The ambassador stressed the importance of international collaboration to ensure all girls have access to education, particularly in regions affected by conflict and crisis.

The event included a discussion with experts and representatives from international organizations, focusing on the crucial role of education in combating gender-based discrimination and the necessity of investing in girls' education to foster sustainable development and social stability.
