Manama: The Bahrain Basketball Association has announced the formation of a new national 3x3 basketball team, Al Sayf, to compete in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour. This move aims to further develop the sport and enhance the Kingdom of Bahrain's regional and international standing.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain's 3x3 basketball has grown notably, with the Kingdom's Asian ranking rising to 17th in June. This is attributed to strong performances by the Al Riffa team in international events and the launch of the Bahrain 3x3 Summer Open, which runs until August and offers a World Tour qualification spot.
Al Sayf will be composed entirely of Bahraini players and staff. The team will participate in a foreign training camp to prepare for upcoming global competitions.
The formation of Al Sayf is part of a wider strategy to position Bahrain as a leading 3x3 basketball destination in the Gulf and Asia, and to continue rising in international rankings.
The FIBA 3x3 World Tour is the top global competition for professional 3x3 teams, held annually across multiple continents, and has helped boost the sport's popularity worldwide.
